It's A New Day...

Well, in my prior post I mentioned that perhaps I would be writing about Davis' first steps soon but I had no idea it would be this soon. However, tonight Davis took his first steps walking from Matt to me! At first we thought perhaps it was a one time thing but then he did it consistently! So I do believe we can say that he has taken his first steps on his 13 month birthday! Matt and I are both grateful that he did it when we were both there! It was the highlight of our day and of a very stressful work week!

Happy Birthday Davis and other fun facts...

Though his birthday was almost a month ago- I thought I still needed to share a few things- although this entry might solidify that we are a little bit crazy! The following pictures are from the morning of Davis’ 1st Birthday. Matt and I both entered his room to wake him up (it was a Monday morning so we both had to go to work) and sang Happy Birthday to him! As you can tell from the following pictures I feel quite confident he is already concerned about our mental stability....

The Thursday following his birthday we headed to the doctor for his 12 month check-up. Here are his “stats”...

His head remains large (cute but still large- in fact, Matt is amazed by his neck strength). The doctor was pleased with his progress and stated that Davis’ playful but curious disposition made him a fun patient to exam. And as doc pointed out- our kid can cut some serious teeth. To date he has 10 teeth (including two molars) and is working on new ones everyday! We were faring pretty well through the teething process until the molars came in. Poor buddy, just isn’t himself some days. He tends to run a slight fever and is very snuggly during this time period (while I hate that he doesn’t feel good- I LOVE to snuggle with him).

Other things of interest: he isn’t walking by himself yet but seems to making strides (literally) everyday! Every time we practice he gets so giggly and silly that you can’t help but join in laughter. Who knew walking was so much fun? Perhaps we will be posting an entry regarding his first steps in the next few weeks but honestly, we are trying to be patient and not rush the process.

Vocabulary- DaDa, MaMa, oof-oof (translated = “woof, woof”-I kid you not). Please understand that these are not fine tuned and he really only says them when he wants too- so if you try to prompt him just know the success rate is questionable! We still get frequent comments about his wild hair but those seem to be slowing down a little- either it is getting better or people are just getting use to it! People more often comment about his blond coloring than about it sticking up in the back. No, he does not belong to the milk man- I too had very blond hair as a child, and there is a reason his Daddy keeps his own hair short.
Davis' favorite food is stawberries! I think he is going to have a very hard time as fall and winter quickly approach and starwberries go out of season. Hopefully this won't be too traumatic for the little guy! Lastly, I've got to say his favorite toys are really books. He is constantly bringing us a book to read to him. So much so that we are many books memorized and could repeat them in our sleep! However, we will continue to encourage the habit and hope that perhaps he will become a bookworm like his mommy!
Ok, well I do apologize for making this such a long post! I think I could go on and on about this little personality that reveals more and more of himself everyday! We take such delight in Davis and I"m reminded once again of our relationship with our heavenly Father. He takes immesearuable delight in us though we are plagued with imperfection. I love the verse below and every time I read it or hear it- it speaks to me in a different way than before... I hope you enjoy it and soak it in as well...
"The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." ~Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

St. George Island 2008

We recently traveled Saint George Island for a much anticipated beach vacation! Every year (or almost every year) my parents rent a beautiful home there and invite us (and our dogs) to come. This year between Hurricane Hanna and Hurricane Ike we thought our much anticipated trip to the beach was going to be canceled. However, Saturday morning we set out with high hopes that we would be able to stay for at least a few days. It just so happens that the Saturday we left was September 6th. Do you know what day that was? Our five year anniversary! Who doesn’t like to celebrate five years of marraige by taking a 7 hour drive to the beach with a 12 month old, and two beagles? In all honesty, it really wasn’t that bad (Davis road with my parents a good portion of the way) and I always enjoy the conversations Matt and I have on long trips! Time really does fly- especially these last couple of years! I can honestly say our marriage just keeps getting better and better (and it’s was never bad to start with)! How lucky am I? God must have heard our prayers because we stayed from Saturday- Thursday and had great breezy weather each day! However, Wednesday night the tide was continuously high and the wind was piercing so we decided to be grateful for the good days we had had and go home and make the best out of the remaining vacation days! This was Davis’ second trip to the beach and he seemed to enjoy it more this time! He played in the tide pools that stretched down the beach and enjoyed the private swimming pool we had! We brought his wagon so he could enjoy strolls on the beach and it turned out to be very useful in transporting all of our beach “stuff” (and as anyone who has a baby/toddler knows- there is A LOT of “stuff”). At the end of each day we would try to get all the sand off of him but there are so many little rolls that this turned out be quite challenging. Here are a few of our favorite pictures from the beach...

Our new blogger home....

Thank you for following us from Baby Jelly Beans to our new blog home of a "A Dimple A Day". I'm afraid we out grew Baby Jelly Beans and kept running out room with all of our photos! Plus our new home is free- and you can't beat that! Things will be slightly different here but I sitll hope you enjoy getting a glimpse into our lives as we start Davis' second year! Along with my adorably cute family (ok- I'm slightly bias) I may also post some thoughts on this journey through motherhood. If for no other reason, Davis will know that although we are not always perfect parents, we certainly love him beyond belief and want what is God's best for him. So I will try not to bore you guys too much and perhaps the cute dimples displayed will keep you coming back for more!
